Kunzea pomifera
An easy to grow attractive groundcover that has petite bright green leaves, small white flowers in spring followed by clusters of green berries that turn purplish/red as they ripen. The berries, that taste like spiced apples and have a higher antioxident level than blueberries, were used as an indigenous food source and are now being produced as a bush food known as 'Muntires'. This groundcover is recommended for exposed coastal locations, in full sun or part shade, is excellent for embankments and sand stabilisation, suppresses weeds and can also be grown in pots. It fruits from year two to three onwards, attracts birds, bees and insects and provides habitat for lizards.
